Custom Air Compressor Options

Apr 17, 2018 2:46:27 PM

Compressors can be simple things to buy at lower horsepower demands, but for larger industrial applications it gets a little more complicated. The configurable options can multiply until buying a compressor is with the right options is a headache.

Our sales department has more hands on experience with product options, so you can call or make an appointment to get all the specific product knowledge or configuration advice you could want.

Alternatively, to get an idea of what you might need to know before you order -- check out this list.

Do you need an enclosed unit or will open style work?

This is a trade off. Keeping a compressor air cooled may increase machine longevity.

However, there are some great benefits that come with an enclosure. Sound pollution is preventable with an exclosure and some factory installed insulation. It can also prevent atmospheric dust and water from damaging the interior components. Often an enclosure may look nicer as well.

Unit may need a microprocessor control or a set of gauges and pressure switches.

Loading and unloading a machine can be controlled the old-fashioned way or by new micro controllers and information screens. This is up to preference, but in many cases the microprocessor ran machines are more customizable and configurable.

Do you need a TEFC Motor or ODP?

Open drip proof (ODP) has ventilation coming from exterior air. It is drip proof, but may fail in a corrosive environment. If the location demands motor isolation, a Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) is ideal. As the name suggested, the motor is completely sealed in and cooled by a fan.

Base mount or Tank mount?

Tank mounted translates to a motor running on top of the tank feeding air directly down into storage. Base mounted means you will need an external air receiver and pipe to run between the unit and storage.

Tank size?

Sometimes you get one tank option, occasionally you can get multiple sizes, but you can always get a larger air receiver as an external unit.

460/3 or 230/3 electrical service?

This depends on what your electrician will install, what kind of service you already have, or what kind of service you will be getting from the power provider in your municipality.

Ideal CFM?

How much CFM do you need per worker? Per running machine? What happens when multiple machines or every machine is running. Leave some buffer room.

Separator Trap?

An oil water separator trap is a part of regular filtration. It is not suggested to get oil in the air line.

Auto Drain

It is strongly suggested to maintain a dry air system with an automatic drain valve. It is a relatively inexpensive way to prevent damage and higher operating costs.

Know what you need?

Get in contact with our sales team or do your own research to find the right product fit for your needs. The correct sizing will save you on parts, electricity, or resizing later. These can all be a huge burden with downtime and more costs downstream. Also, please consider Air & Gas Technologies for your recurring preventative maintenance. Between correct sizing and a PM contract, you can set it and forget it.
